Legal Posting Guide

Effective date: April 5, 2026

This page helps users create safer, more compliant listings on ShooterBoard (shooterboard.com). It also explains how the platform operates and what is expected from users who post content.

ShooterBoard is a platform only — we do not buy or sell items, we are not a party to any transaction, we do not process payments, and we do not verify users or listings. This page is general information — not legal advice.

1. How to Keep Your Listing Compliant

Do:

  • Post your location at the city and state level — buyers need to know where you are
  • Describe the item honestly and accurately — condition, what is included, any known issues or modifications
  • Use clear photos of the actual item — not stock photos, not images from other listings
  • State your preferred transfer method — local meetup, ship to FFL, or both
  • If the item requires an FFL transfer in your situation, state “FFL transfer required” prominently in the listing
  • Include relevant details: caliber, model, manufacturer, accessories included, round count (if applicable)
  • Set a clear and honest price — note whether it includes shipping or is negotiable

Do not:

  • Post content that encourages, requests, or facilitates bypassing legal requirements (e.g., “no paperwork,” “no background check needed,” “ship direct — no FFL”)
  • Post “how-to” content intended to enable illegal activity (illegal modifications, unregistered manufacturing, etc.)
  • Post items listed on the Prohibited Items page
  • Post threats, harassment, hate speech, or personal data about others
  • Use deceptive practices — bait-and-switch, misleading photos, or false descriptions
  • Post duplicate or spam listings

2. Protect Your Privacy

  • Do not put your home address in the listing
  • Avoid posting your phone number publicly — use the platform’s messaging system for initial contact when possible
  • Check your photos before uploading — look for sensitive information visible in the background: home addresses on mail, license plates, visible IDs, reflections showing personal details
  • Consider removing or blurring metadata-rich images if you are privacy-conscious

3. Platform Rules That Protect Everyone

ShooterBoard may remove listings or restrict accounts that create high risk, including:

  • Illegal or prohibited items
  • Obvious scam patterns or fraudulent listings
  • Listings showing indicators of serial number tampering, defacement, or removal
  • Repeated violations or complaints against the same user
  • Harassment, doxxing, threats, or intimidation
  • Listings that clearly attempt to circumvent legal requirements

We may preserve records, logs, and communications, and we may cooperate with law enforcement agencies in response to lawful requests.

4. Use an FFL When in Doubt

If you are unsure about the correct legal process for selling or transferring an item:

  • Use an FFL transfer. It is the safest and most legally defensible option.
  • See the FFL Transfer Checklist page on this site for a step-by-step guide.
  • Consult a local FFL dealer — most are knowledgeable about state-specific requirements.
  • If the legal situation is complex (NFA items, state-specific restrictions), consider consulting a firearms attorney.

5. What Makes a Good Listing

A well-written listing helps you sell faster and reduces problems:

  • Title: Clear and descriptive — include make, model, and caliber if applicable
  • Photos: Multiple clear photos showing the item from different angles, close-ups of condition, and any included accessories
  • Description: Honest, detailed, and specific. State what is included and what is not. Mention any wear, modifications, or repairs.
  • Price: State a clear price. Note whether it is firm, OBO (or best offer), or negotiable.
  • Location: City and state — so buyers know whether this is local or requires shipping
  • Transfer method: Local meetup, FFL transfer, ship to FFL, or all of the above
  • FFL statement: If required, prominently state “FFL TRANSFER REQUIRED”
